The Story
This song grew out of watching people carry exhaustion and loneliness.
When I served my mission in Texas, I spent time in a few Baptist churches with friends. The hymns in those buildings felt different. There was sincerity there. A pleading tone. People asking God to stay close to them, not because they were lazy or careless, but because life had worn them thin.
That feeling stayed with me over 24 years now.
This song was written while thinking about people who feel unworthy, forgotten, or afraid that weakness will push God away. People who assume that if they are struggling, it must mean God has stepped back.
The lyrics are intentionally written like a prayer. Older language. Repetition. The kind of words people reach for when they do not have the energy to dress things up. When all that is left is asking God to stay near.
I have seen this fear in myself too. The idea that failure somehow disqualifies you from God's presence. That darkness means distance. This song sits in that fear and holds onto something steadier.
When things get dark, the light does not disappear. It becomes harder to see, but it was already promised. God does not bring challenges without preparing a way through them. This song rests in that understanding and leaves room for people who are tired but still reaching.
