Lyrics

Morning comes before I'm ready

House still dark, mind already heavy

Caffeine's fast, but hits too slow

Tie my boots like I already know

Bills sit quiet on the table

I don't read 'em, but I feel 'em

Take one breath before I go

Carry more than I ever show

I don't talk about the pressure

I just move through it

Sometimes it's heaven

Sometimes it's hell

Some days I'm steady

Some days I'm holdin' my breath

I keep on movin'

Even when I'm tired

Try to stand straight

While the ground moves under fire

I'm a workin' man

Yeah, I'm a workin' man

Phone lights up in the quiet hours

Same old numbers, different power

Every answer has a cost

Every win feels almost lost

Kids asleep, the hallway glows

I stop right there, don't let 'em know

If I'm strong or if I'm thin

If I'm barely holdin' it in

I don't show it

But it's there

Sometimes it's heaven

Sometimes it's hell

Some nights I'm sure

Some nights I can't tell

I keep on movin'

Even when it burns

Try to stay upright

While the whole world turns

I'm a workin' man

Yeah, I'm a workin' man

I don't need praise

I don't need proof

Just need to know

I'm still tellin' the truth

If I bend low

If I don't win

Let it be known

I showed up again

Sometimes it's heaven

Sometimes it's hell

Sometimes I'm fine

Sometimes I'm not doin' well

Still I'm movin'

Still I stand

Tryin' to live right

As a workin' man

Yeah I'm a workin' man

Yeah I'm a workin' man

Morning comes, lace 'em tight

Same old road, different light

If they ask who I am

Tell 'em this

I'm a workin' man

The Story

This song came from a rough day. Man have I had a few of those, as I'm sure we all have.

Waking up before the sun is a daily norm. I'll tell you now it has NOTHING to do with the hustle culture that social media puts out. It's an annoying but necessary habit. Sitting in the front room. Lacing up shoes (Jordans usually, but boots just felt better in the song, right?). Drinking caffeine (what's your go to? Reign is my current obsession). Getting to work. Doing it again tomorrow.

It is not overtly spiritual. It is honest about what I feel like day in and day out.

Some days feel steady. Some feel heavy. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you just survive. Either way, you show up.

This song is about identity. About knowing that effort matters. About refusing to let failure define the end of the story.

I wrote it thinking about people who grind quietly. Painters. Truck drivers. Oil field workers. Anyone who puts their head down and keeps going. The energy of the song is somber, and almost R&B in nature, but I embedded that country sound because country has a traditional nature to it.

This is who I am. I work. I stay. I keep moving.
