Be Lovely - New song Tuesday
February 4, 2026

Be Lovely is a song that snuck up on me.
It started as a simple idea, but the more I sat with it, the more I realized it was really shaped by watching my daughter Grace move through the world. She has this old-soul way about her. She notices people. She sees who’s on the edges. She says the things most of us think but don’t always say out loud. Things like “You matter. You’re kind. You’re doing a good job. I see you.”
That’s what this song is. It’s not a love song and I tried super hard to soften that profile, and it’s not a story about her. It’s written like she’s talking to her friends, because that’s how she actually speaks to people. Calm. Encouraging. No agenda. Just genuine kindness offered freely.
Musically, I leaned into that same spirit. A slow, vintage jazz ballad feel. Piano only. Simple. Warm. The kind of sound that feels like it belongs to another era, which fits Grace perfectly. She loves old movies, classic music, and anything that carries a little history with it. She’s always felt older than her years in the best way.
I’m in the process of getting the song properly transcribed now, and I’m hoping I can eventually coax her into performing it live with me. No pressure. No forcing the moment. Just letting it happen if and when it feels right.
For now, I just wanted to share the song and the heart behind it.
If it makes you feel seen, even for a minute, then it’s doing exactly what it was meant to do.
