The Table

Share a meal

Set the table and fill every chair. A shared Sunday meal is a small rehearsal of the feast the Lord has promised to all people.

unto all people a feast of fat thingsIsaiah 25:6

  • Add a chair. Invite a neighbour, a widow, a new family, or a student far from home.
  • Cook on Saturday. Keep Sunday’s meal simple so no one spends the day in the kitchen.
  • Let the children set it. They choose the cloth, the flowers and where everyone sits.
  • Ask one question. “Where did you see God this week?” The youngest answers first.
  • On your own? Take a meal to someone, or ask a friend over for soup and bread.

Why the Sabbath

  • The earth will restAs God rested on the seventh day, the earth will have its own Sabbath: a thousand years of peace with Christ.Revelation 20:4 · Doctrine and Covenants 77:12 · Pearl of Great Price, Moses 7:64
  • The Sabbath was made for usIt is a gift for rest and renewal, made to serve us, not to weigh us down.Mark 2:27
  • A sign between usKeeping the day holy is a quiet sign between God and His people that He is the One who makes us holy.Exodus 31:13

Someday Christ will reign and the whole earth will rest. I don’t want to meet that day as a stranger to it. So one day a week, I practice. Shane, By Lord Redeemed
