Prince of Peace

Solomon — 'peaceable', from shalom, peace

Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days. 1 Chronicles 22:9

The promised son of David is named for peace and brings rest. Solomon is a type of the greater Son of David, the Prince of Peace, who gives true rest to all who come to Him.

Son of David, heir of the everlasting throne

He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever. 1 Chronicles 22:10

The Lord promises David a son who will be His own son and whose throne lasts for ever. It first means Solomon, but the New Testament applies these very words to Jesus Christ, the Son of God born in David's line, whose kingdom has no end.
