Charity, the pure love of Christ

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 1 Corinthians 13:4–8

Mormon teaches that "charity is the pure love of Christ" (Moroni 7:47), using nearly the same words Paul uses here. Every quality in this list describes how Jesus loves, so this chapter is a picture of Him and of the love He gives to His true followers.

Seeing the Lord face to face

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 1 Corinthians 13:12

Now our view of God is dim, like a blurry mirror, but a day will come when the faithful see Him face to face and know Him fully. It echoes the promise that we will see the Lord as He is.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• alluded to by D&C 76:94 — Those in the celestial glory "see as they are seen, and know as they are known".
• the same event in 1 John 3:2 — "when he shall appear ... we shall see him as he is".
