1 Samuel 14

Jehovah the Savior

And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few. 1 Samuel 14:6

Jonathan trusts that Jehovah can save no matter how few are on His side. The Lord who saves Israel is Jesus Christ, whose power to save does not depend on numbers.

Jehovah the Savior

So the LORD saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over unto Bethaven. 1 Samuel 14:23

The narrator credits the victory not to Saul or Jonathan but to Jehovah. The Old Testament's Savior of Israel is the premortal Christ.

Jehovah the Savior

For, as the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him. 1 Samuel 14:39

Saul swears by Jehovah, 'which saveth Israel' — an oath that names the living Lord by His saving role, which Latter-day Saints recognize as the role of Jesus Christ.
