1 Samuel 18

David as a type of Christ

And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him. 1 Samuel 18:14–15

The anointed David acts wisely with the Lord's presence upon him, and the reigning king fears and plots against him. The Hebrew word for 'behaved wisely' is the one Isaiah uses of the Messianic Servant who 'shall deal prudently', and Jesus likewise grew in wisdom and favor while rulers sought His life.

David as a type of Christ

And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king’s son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed? 1 Samuel 18:23

The anointed future king sees himself as poor and lightly esteemed. It softly echoes the Messiah who was despised and esteemed not, though He is the rightful King.
