2 Nephi 14

The Branch

Branch — the new shoot from David's line, the Messiah

In that day shall the branch of the Lord be beautiful and glorious; the fruit of the earth excellent and comely to them that are escaped of Israel. 2 Nephi 14:2

Other prophets call the Messiah 'the Branch,' a righteous shoot growing from David's family tree. In that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious to the survivors of Israel.

Jehovah

Jehovah — the premortal Christ, God of Israel

When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning. 2 Nephi 14:4

The Lord washes and purges Zion before she can be called holy. That cleansing work is the work of Christ.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

And the Lord will create upon every dwelling-place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for upon all the glory of Zion shall be a defence. 2 Nephi 14:5–6

The Lord's protecting presence returns as it did in the Exodus, with cloud by day and fire by night. His tabernacle becomes shade, refuge, and shelter from the storm, which is what Christ is to His people.
