2 Nephi 24

Jehovah who gives rest

For the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land; and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob. 2 Nephi 24:1–3

Jehovah, the premortal Christ, promises mercy to scattered Israel, a home, and rest from sorrow and bondage. Jesus later made the same offer: come unto me and I will give you rest.

The Beloved Son chosen, Lucifer cast down

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! Art thou cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations! 2 Nephi 24:12–15

Lucifer, meaning 'light-bearer', wanted to exalt himself above God and was cast down. Latter-day Saint scripture tells how in the premortal council he rebelled when the Father chose His Beloved Son, who humbly said 'Thy will be done', so Satan's pride stands in sharp contrast to Christ's meekness.

Lord of Hosts

Lord of Hosts — Jehovah, commander of the armies of heaven

The Lord of Hosts hath sworn, saying: Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand— 2 Nephi 24:24–27

Jehovah swears in His own voice that His purposes cannot be stopped and that He will lift the oppressor's yoke from His people. The Lord of Hosts is the premortal Christ, whose promises always stand.
