Messiah (the LORD's Anointed)

Messiah — the Anointed One; 'the LORD's anointed' is mashiach YHWH in Hebrew, the same word that becomes Messiah (Greek: Christ)

And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD’s anointed? 2 Samuel 1:14–16

Here 'the LORD's anointed' means King Saul, but the Hebrew word is mashiach, Messiah. David's reverence for the anointed king prepares the language later used for Jesus, the Anointed One above all others.
