Doctrine of Christ

Imagining up some vain thing in their hearts, that it was wrought by men and by the power of the devil, to lead away and deceive the hearts of the people; and thus did Satan get possession of the hearts of the people again, insomuch that he did blind their eyes and lead them away to believe that the doctrine of Christ was a foolish and a vain thing. 3 Nephi 2:2

Only a few years after the signs, Satan convinces people the doctrine of Christ is foolish, showing how fast unmaintained testimony fades.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• the same title in 2 Nephi 31:21 — 'this is the doctrine of Christ'.

Coming of Christ

Christ — the Anointed One

And nine years had passed away from the time when the sign was given, which was spoken of by the prophets, that Christ should come into the world. 3 Nephi 2:7–8

The Nephites restart their calendar at the coming of Christ, the way our own calendar counts years from His birth.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• the same event in 3 Nephi 1:19-21 — The sign of His birth that begins the new reckoning.
