The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Ecclesiastes 1:1

The author is a son of David reigning in Jerusalem, usually understood as Solomon. Solomon's wise reign prefigures the true Son of David, Jesus Christ, who said 'a greater than Solomon is here.' The contrast is instructive: this son of David finds all things vain, while Christ gives meaning to life.
