Angel of the LORD

And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. Genesis 16:7–11

The angel of the LORD finds a lonely, mistreated woman in the desert and makes promises only God can keep, speaking in God's first person. Verse 13 identifies the speaker as the LORD, so Jehovah's own words come through His messenger. The name Ishmael means "God hears."

Thou God seest me (El Roi)

And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? Genesis 16:13–14

Hagar gives Jehovah a name: the God who sees her. This is the premortal Christ, who notices the outcast and the suffering.
