Genesis 19

Jehovah, merciful deliverer

For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it. Genesis 19:13–16

Jehovah's messengers take Lot by the hand while he hesitates and pull him to safety because the LORD is merciful. That picture of undeserved rescue shows the character of the Savior.

Lot speaks to his rescuer as Lord and credits Him with grace, mercy, and saving his life. The answer ("I have accepted thee") comes with God's authority.

Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; Genesis 19:24–26

Jesus Himself said the day fire fell on Sodom is how it will be when the Son of Man is revealed, and He warned, "Remember Lot's wife." The phrase "the LORD ... from the LORD" has traditionally been noted as a hint of more than one divine Person.
