Jehovah

And thus being prepared to meet the Lamanites, they did not prosper against us. But the word of the Lord was verified, which he spake unto our fathers, saying that: Inasmuch as ye will keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land. Jarom 1:9

Jarom quotes the Lord's covenant promise to Lehi and Nephi. The covenant God who gave the promised land is Jehovah, the premortal Christ.

Messiah

Wherefore, the prophets, and the priests, and the teachers, did labor diligently, exhorting with all long-suffering the people to diligence; teaching the law of Moses, and the intent for which it was given; persuading them to look forward unto the Messiah, and believe in him to come as though he already was. And after this manner did they teach them. Jarom 1:11

The Nephite prophets taught people to have faith in the Messiah as if He had already come. Faith in Christ worked before His birth because His Atonement covers all time.

Law of Moses as a Type of Christ

The 'intent' of the law of Moses was to point to Christ. Its sacrifices and ordinances were types of His Atonement, so teaching its purpose meant teaching about Him.
