Jeremiah 22

Jehovah

He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD. Jeremiah 22:16

Jehovah teaches that to know Him is to care for the poor and needy as Josiah did. Jesus later taught that knowing God and Him is life eternal, and that serving the least is serving Him.

Throne of David

As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence; Jeremiah 22:24–30

Jehovah removes the signet from Coniah and declares that none of his descendants will prosper on David's throne. The failure of David's earthly kings prepares for the promise, in the very next chapter, of the righteous Branch of David who will reign forever, fulfilled in Jesus Christ; Haggai later restores the signet image to Zerubbabel.
