Job 9

Creator who treads the waves

Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea. Job 9:8–11

The God who made the heavens walks on the sea and 'passes by' unseen. Restoration scripture names Jesus Christ as the Creator, and in the Gospels He literally walks on the waves and meant to 'pass by' His disciples, showing Himself to be this God.

Daysman

Daysman — an umpire or arbiter who sets the day of hearing and lays a hand on both parties to reconcile them

For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment. Job 9:32–33

Job longs for a daysman: someone who can stand between God and man and put a hand on both. Jesus Christ is exactly that, fully divine and fully human, the one Mediator and Advocate who pleads our cause before the Father.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• fulfilled by 1 Timothy 2:5 — One mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
• fulfilled by 1 John 2:1 — We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
• fulfilled by D&C 45:3-4 — Christ the advocate with the Father pleads our cause before Him.
