Joshua 13

Jehovah

Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed. Joshua 13:1–6

Jehovah, the premortal Christ, speaks to the old Joshua, acknowledges how much land is still unpossessed, and promises that He Himself will drive out the peoples that remain. The inheritance is to be divided on the strength of His word, before the conquest is finished.

Sacrifice as a similitude of Christ

Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the LORD God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as he said unto them. Joshua 13:14

The priestly tribe of Levi received no land; their portion was the altar sacrifices. Scripture states plainly that those sacrifices were a similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten, so the Levites' whole inheritance consisted of rites that pointed to Jesus Christ.

Jehovah, the inheritance of the Levites

But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them. Joshua 13:33

Instead of land, the Levites were given the LORD Himself as their portion. Jehovah, the premortal Christ, is the inheritance of those who serve Him — a promise He had made to Aaron and now keeps.
