Jehovah

And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt, Joshua 9:9–10

Even deceitful outsiders are drawn by the name and mighty works of Jehovah, the premortal Christ, who delivered Israel from Egypt.

Israel's mistake was trusting their own eyes instead of seeking the word of the LORD. The lesson: counsel with the Lord before making covenants and decisions.
