Jesus

Jesus — Greek form of Joshua/Jeshua, 'Jehovah saves'

O ye fair ones, how could ye have departed from the ways of the Lord! O ye fair ones, how could ye have rejected that Jesus, who stood with open arms to receive you! Mormon 6:17

Mormon grieves that his people rejected Jesus, who was waiting with open arms to take them back. The Nephites were not destroyed because the Savior gave up on them. They were destroyed because they refused His invitation.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

  • alludes to Alma 5:33 — Alma: 'the arms of mercy are extended towards them' — the same image of the Savior's open invitation.
  • alludes to 3 Nephi 9:14 — The risen Lord to the survivors: 'mine arm of mercy is extended towards you.'

Judgment-seat of Christ

Christ — Greek for 'the Anointed One' (Hebrew: Messiah)

And the day soon cometh that your mortal must put on immortality, and these bodies which are now moldering in corruption must soon become incorruptible bodies; and then ye must stand before the judgment-seat of Christ, to be judged according to your works; and if it so be that ye are righteous, then are ye blessed with your fathers who have gone before you. Mormon 6:21

Even the slain will be resurrected, and every person will stand before Christ as their Judge. Mormon teaches that the bodies lying on the battlefield will rise immortal because of Christ and will then answer to Him.
