Jehovah

Jehovah — the covenant God of Israel, the premortal Jesus Christ

And it came to pass that after the space of two years that Abinadi came among them in disguise, that they knew him not, and began to prophesy among them, saying: Thus has the Lord commanded me, saying—Abinadi, go and prophesy unto this my people, for they have hardened their hearts against my words; they have repented not of their evil doings; therefore, I will visit them in my anger, yea, in my fierce anger will I visit them in their iniquities and abominations. Mosiah 12:1–8

The Lord speaks in the first person, calls Israel "this my people," and says Noah "shall know that I am the Lord." This is Jehovah, the premortal Christ, speaking through His prophet.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• fulfilled by Mosiah 17:15-18 — Abinadi repeats and sharpens the prophecy against Noah as he dies.
• fulfilled by Mosiah 19:20 — Noah dies by fire, as prophesied in verse 3.

He That Bringeth Good Tidings

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings; that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good; that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth; Mosiah 12:21

The priests quote this Isaiah passage to trap Abinadi. In Mosiah 15:18 he explains that the one whose feet are beautiful, who brings good tidings and publishes peace, is ultimately the Lord Himself, the founder of peace who redeemed His people.

Redeemer of Jerusalem

Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing; for they shall see eye to eye when the Lord shall bring again Zion; Mosiah 12:22–23

Isaiah foretells the Lord bringing Zion back and redeeming Jerusalem. Christ Himself quotes these lines when He foretells the gathering of Israel, so the Redeemer here is Jesus Christ.

The Arm of the Lord

The Lord hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God? Mosiah 12:24

The Lord's "holy arm" is His saving power shown openly. Isaiah 53:1, which Abinadi reads next (Mosiah 14:1), asks "to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?" and then describes the suffering Messiah, so the arm made bare is Christ and His salvation.

Jehovah, Giver of the Law at Sinai

I am the Lord thy God, who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Mosiah 12:34–36

Abinadi recites the opening of the Ten Commandments, spoken by the God who freed Israel from Egypt. The resurrected Jesus told the Nephites that He is the one who gave the law, so the voice at Sinai is the premortal Christ.
