1 Samuel 25

Mediator (Abigail's intercession)

And fell at his feet, and said, Upon me, my lord, upon me let this iniquity be: and let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak in thine audience, and hear the words of thine handmaid. 1 Samuel 25:24

Abigail steps between an angry king and a guilty household and asks that the iniquity be laid on her, though she did nothing wrong. Her intercession foreshadows Christ, the Mediator who took our iniquity upon Himself.

Sure house of David

I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thine handmaid: for the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the LORD, and evil hath not been found in thee all thy days. 1 Samuel 25:28

Abigail prophesies that the LORD will give David a lasting dynasty. That 'sure house' is promised in 2 Samuel 7 and fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the Son of David who reigns forever.

• fulfilled by Luke 1:32-33 — Jesus receives the throne of David forever.

Jehovah

Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling. 1 Samuel 25:29

Abigail says David's soul is kept safe in 'the bundle of life' with the LORD. Life and safety are held by Jehovah, the premortal Christ, who gives eternal life.

Jehovah, God of Israel

And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me: 1 Samuel 25:32

David praises the LORD God of Israel for sending Abigail to keep him from sin (echoed in verse 34). Jehovah, the God of Israel, is the premortal Jesus Christ.

Jehovah as Advocate

And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the LORD, that hath pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and hath kept his servant from evil: for the LORD hath returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and communed with Abigail, to take her to him to wife. 1 Samuel 25:39

David recognizes that the LORD pleaded his cause and kept him from evil. Jehovah defending His servant points to Christ, who pleads our cause and delivers us from evil.

Humble foot-washing

And she arose, and bowed herself on her face to the earth, and said, Behold, let thine handmaid be a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord. 1 Samuel 25:41

Abigail offers to wash the feet of David's servants, the lowliest service. The image echoes the Savior, who knelt and washed His disciples' feet.
