1 Samuel 30

Jehovah

And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. 1 Samuel 30:6

Even when his own men talked of stoning him, David found strength in Jehovah, the premortal Christ. It shows turning to the Lord as the first move in a crisis.

And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. 1 Samuel 30:8

Jehovah answers David and promises he will recover everything. Unlike Saul, who got no answer in chapter 28, David asks and receives revelation.

David as a type of Christ

And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives. 1 Samuel 30:18–19

David, the anointed future king, goes after the captives and brings every one home with nothing lost. It is a soft picture of the Son of David, who came to set captives free and lose none of His own.
