Sacrifice as a similitude of Christ

And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Bethshemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine a burnt offering unto the LORD. 1 Samuel 6:14–15

When the ark comes home, Israel offers burnt offerings, which the Lord taught from Adam's day were a similitude of the sacrifice of His Only Begotten. The offered cows had never borne a yoke (v. 7), like the red heifer of Numbers 19:2 whose offering Hebrews ties to Christ.

Jehovah

And the men of Bethshemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us? 1 Samuel 6:20

After many die for looking into the ark, the people ask who can stand before so holy a God. Scripture answers that only through Christ, the Mediator, can the unclean stand in God's presence.
