Lord of Hosts

Lord of Hosts — Jehovah, Lord of the armies of heaven

And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee. 2 Kings 3:14

Elisha swears by the living LORD of hosts, the one he serves and stands before. Latter-day Saints understand that this LORD, Jehovah, is the premortal Jesus Christ.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

Jehovah

Jehovah — the covenant God of Israel, the premortal Christ

And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches. 2 Kings 3:16–18

Elisha speaks Jehovah's words: dig ditches in faith and He will fill them with water and give the victory. It is the premortal Christ saving a people who have nothing left.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

Living water

And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water. 2 Kings 3:20

The saving water comes at the very hour of the temple offering. It softly echoes how life and rescue come to us through Christ's sacrifice, the offering all the others pointed to.
