Saviour

Saviour — the one who rescues and saves

Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: 2 Peter 1:1

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, calls Him 'our Saviour'; faith comes through His righteousness.

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 2 Peter 1:2

Grace and peace grow as we come to know God the Father and Jesus our Lord.

Divine Power and Divine Nature

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 2 Peter 1:3–4

Through His divine power, Jesus our Lord (v. 2) gives us everything we need to become like God, sharing in His divine nature.

Our Lord Jesus Christ

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:8

Adding faith, virtue, knowledge, patience, godliness, kindness and charity keeps us from being barren in our knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Lord and Saviour

For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:11

Those who make their calling and election sure will enter the eternal kingdom of their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ Reveals

Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. 2 Peter 1:14

Peter knows his death is near because the Lord Jesus Christ revealed it to him, just as Jesus foretold Peter's death at the Sea of Galilee.

Eyewitness of Christ's Majesty

For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 2 Peter 1:16

Peter's testimony is not a clever story: he saw Jesus in His glory on the Mount of Transfiguration, a preview of His power and coming.

Beloved Son

For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 2 Peter 1:17–18

On the holy mount Peter heard the Father's own voice testify that Jesus is His Beloved Son. The Father introduces His Son in the same words at Jesus's baptism, at Bountiful, and in the Sacred Grove.

Day Star

Day star — the morning star that heralds the dawn

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 2 Peter 1:19

Prophecy is a lamp in a dark place until Christ, the Day Star, rises in our hearts. Jesus calls Himself 'the bright and morning star'.
