Acts 10

Lord of All

Lord of all — sovereign over every nation, Jew and Gentile alike

The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) Acts 10:36

Peter declares that God's peace comes through Jesus Christ and that Jesus is Lord of all. That is why the gospel belongs to Gentiles like Cornelius as much as to Israel.

His mortal ministry

Jesus of Nazareth, the Anointed — the meaning of Messiah/Christ

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Acts 10:38

Peter explains what "Christ" means: God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost and power. He then sums up Jesus' life in one line: He went about doing good and healing those oppressed by the devil.

The Crucifixion

And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Acts 10:39

Peter testifies as an eyewitness of what Jesus did and of His death on the cross, which he calls "a tree." The wording recalls the law of Moses about one hanged on a tree, who takes a curse upon himself.

The Resurrection

Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; Acts 10:40–41

Peter testifies that Jesus rose on the third day with a real, physical body. He and the other chosen witnesses ate and drank with the risen Lord.

Judge of the living and the dead

And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. Acts 10:42

The risen Jesus commissioned the Apostles to testify that God has appointed Him as the Judge of everyone, both the living and the dead.

Faith in Christ

To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. Acts 10:43

Peter says every prophet testified of Jesus, which is the premise of this whole map, and that forgiveness of sins comes through faith in His name. Jacob in the Book of Mormon says the same thing: none of the prophets wrote or prophesied without speaking of Christ (Jacob 7:11).

Taking His name

And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. Acts 10:48

The first Gentile converts enter the covenant by being baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, the same covenant His Jewish disciples had made.
