Moses as a Type of Christ

Moses — "drawn out" (of the water)

And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. Exodus 2:2–10

The baby deliverer is hidden and preserved while a king kills Israel's children, just as the infant Jesus was protected from Herod. The Lord Himself taught that Moses was a pattern of the Messiah, the prophet like unto Moses.

Moses, the Rejected Deliverer

And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren. Exodus 2:11–14

Moses goes out to his suffering brethren to deliver them, and they reject him. Stephen quotes this very question to show that Israel rejected the deliverer God sent, as they later rejected Jesus.

Jehovah, Who Hears His People

And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. Exodus 2:23–25

Israel cries out in bondage, and God hears, remembers His covenant, and looks upon them. This is the covenant God, Jehovah, the premortal Christ, who told Abraham 'my name is Jehovah, and I have heard thee, and have come down to deliver thee.'
