Genesis 39

Jehovah

And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. Genesis 39:2–3

Though Joseph is a slave, the LORD (Jehovah) is with him and prospers him so plainly that even his Egyptian master can see it.

Joseph as a type of Christ

And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. Genesis 39:4–6

The master puts everything into Joseph's hand, and the LORD blesses the whole house for Joseph's sake. Joseph foreshadows the Son, into whose hand the Father has given all things.

Joseph as a type of Christ

And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. Genesis 39:7–12

Joseph is tempted day after day and refuses to sin against God. He foreshadows the Savior, who was tempted in all points yet never sinned.

Joseph as a type of Christ

That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice: Genesis 39:14–20

The innocent servant is falsely accused and bound in prison though he did no wrong. Jesus, the sinless Servant, was condemned on false witness and 'taken from prison and from judgment.'

Jehovah

But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. Genesis 39:21–23

Even in prison the LORD (Jehovah) is with Joseph, shows him mercy, and prospers his work. The Lord does not leave His faithful servants in their darkest places.
