Joseph as a Type of Christ

So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him. Genesis 50:17–21

The brothers who sold Joseph beg forgiveness, and he weeps, forgives, and promises to feed them. Like Jesus, Joseph was betrayed by his own, yet the evil done to him became the means of saving many lives, and he answered it with mercy.

Jehovah the Deliverer

And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. Genesis 50:24–25

Dying, Joseph promises that the covenant God will visit Israel and bring them out of Egypt. In the Joseph Smith Translation this prophecy is much longer and speaks of a deliverer (Moses), a latter-day seer, and the Messiah called Shiloh.
