Isaiah 27

Victory over the Serpent

In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea. Isaiah 27:1

The LORD will destroy the serpent and dragon, symbols of evil and chaos. Revelation names the dragon, that old serpent, as Satan, whom the Lord binds at His coming, fulfilling the promise that the Seed of the woman would crush the serpent.

Lord of the Vineyard

In that day sing ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine. Isaiah 27:2–6

Jehovah sings of His vineyard, Israel, which He guards night and day, and invites even His enemies to take hold of His strength and make peace with Him. Jesus Christ is the Lord of the vineyard who labors for His people and reconciles enemies to God.

Taking Away Sin

By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up. Isaiah 27:9

The goal of all the Lord's dealings is to purge Israel's iniquity and take away sin. Paul cites this promise when he speaks of the Deliverer who comes to take away Israel's sins.

Jehovah

Jehovah — the covenant name, rendered LORD; the premortal Jesus Christ

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel. Isaiah 27:12–13

The LORD gathers His people one by one at the sound of a great trumpet. Jesus uses the same image of a great trumpet for the gathering of the elect at His coming.
