Isaiah 44

Belonging to the LORD

One shall say, I am the LORD’s; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel. Isaiah 44:5

People from many places will say "I am the LORD's" and take the covenant name. Latter-day Saints do this when they take Christ's name upon them.

The First and the Last; King and Redeemer

LORD of hosts — Jehovah, commander of the armies of heaven

Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Isaiah 44:6

This verse gathers several of Christ's titles: King of Israel, Redeemer, LORD of hosts, and the First and the Last. The resurrected Jesus claims the last one directly.

Jehovah

Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any. Isaiah 44:8

Jehovah calls Israel his witnesses against idols. In the Latter-day Saint view the speaker is the premortal Christ, and "no God beside me" is aimed at false gods, not at the Father.

Redeemer Who Blots Out Sin

Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me. Isaiah 44:21–22

The Redeemer says he has already blotted out Israel's sins like a cloud disappearing, and he invites them to come back to him. His redemption comes first and is the reason to return.

Redeemer

Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel. Isaiah 44:23

All creation is told to sing because the LORD has redeemed Jacob. Heaven and earth rejoice at the Redeemer's work.

Redeemer and Creator

Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; Isaiah 44:24

The Redeemer is also the one who made all things. Scripture teaches that the Father created through the Son, so the same Being who created us also redeems us.
