Jehovah

Jehovah — the covenant name, the premortal and resurrected Jesus Christ

The veil was taken from our minds, and the eyes of our understanding were opened. Doctrine and Covenants 110:1–3

Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery see the glorified Lord in the temple. His voice is called the voice of Jehovah, and verse 4 shows He is the one who was slain, so Jehovah is Jesus Christ.

The First and the Last

The First and the Last — eternal, before all and after all

I am the first and the last; I am he who liveth, I am he who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father. Doctrine and Covenants 110:4

Jehovah calls Himself the First and the Last, the one who lives and the one who was slain. That can only be the crucified and resurrected Jesus Christ.

Advocate with the Father

Advocate — one who pleads another's cause

I am the first and the last; I am he who liveth, I am he who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father. Doctrine and Covenants 110:4

Christ says He pleads our case before the Father. The Father and the Son are two distinct beings, and the Son stands for us.

Atonement — Sins Forgiven

Behold, your sins are forgiven you; you are clean before me; therefore, lift up your heads and rejoice. Doctrine and Covenants 110:5

Because He was slain for them, the Savior can declare Joseph and Oliver clean. This answers the plea in the dedicatory prayer for Jehovah to forgive His people.

Jehovah Accepts His House

Let the hearts of your brethren rejoice, and let the hearts of all my people rejoice, who have, with their might, built this house to my name. Doctrine and Covenants 110:6–10

The Lord accepts the temple as His house, puts His name there, and promises to show Himself and speak with His own voice to His faithful servants. The temple is where the Savior comes to His people.

Seed of Abraham

After this, Elias appeared, and committed the dispensation of the gospel of Abraham, saying that in us and our seed all generations after us should be blessed. Doctrine and Covenants 110:12

The Abrahamic promise that all generations would be blessed through Abraham's seed is restored. Paul teaches that the promised Seed is ultimately Christ, and the blessing comes through Him.

Great and Dreadful Day of the Lord

After this vision had closed, another great and glorious vision burst upon us; for Elijah the prophet, who was taken to heaven without tasting death, stood before us, and said: Doctrine and Covenants 110:13–16

Elijah comes as Malachi promised, before the great and dreadful day of the Lord, the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. His coming is a sign that the Savior's return is near.
