Jeremiah 32

Kinsman Redeemer

Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee, saying, Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for the right of redemption is thine to buy it. Jeremiah 32:7–8

Under the law a near relative had the right to buy back family land so the inheritance was not lost. Jeremiah's purchase in a doomed land is a sign of hope, and it echoes Christ, our divine Kinsman, who buys back the inheritance we could not keep.

Creator

Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: Jeremiah 32:17

Jeremiah prays to the Lord GOD who made heaven and earth. Latter-day Saints understand Jehovah, the Creator, to be the premortal Jesus Christ.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

The Mighty God

Mighty God — God the powerful warrior

Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name, Jeremiah 32:18

Jeremiah names the LORD of hosts 'the Great, the Mighty God.' Isaiah gives the same title to the child who would be born to rule on David's throne.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

• the same title in Isaiah 9:6 — His name shall be called... The mighty God.

Jehovah

Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? Jeremiah 32:27

Jehovah answers Jeremiah's prayer with his own words: nothing is too hard for the God of all flesh. He echoes the question He asked Abraham and Sarah before the promised son was born.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

Jehovah, God of the Everlasting Covenant

Behold, I will gather them out of all countries, whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely: Jeremiah 32:37–41

Jehovah promises to gather scattered Israel, give them one heart, and make an everlasting covenant never to turn away from them. Latter-day Saints see this gathering and covenant fulfilled through Christ's restored gospel.
