Jeremiah 36

Jehovah

Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. Jeremiah 36:2–3

Jehovah, the premortal Jesus Christ, speaks. Even while warning of judgment, His purpose is that His people repent so He can forgive them.

• alludes to Jeremiah 31:34 — The same promise of forgiveness in the new covenant: "I will forgive their iniquity."

But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them. Jeremiah 36:26

When the king ordered Baruch and Jeremiah arrested, the LORD (Jehovah, the premortal Christ) hid and protected His servants.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, Jeremiah 36:27–28

The king burned the scroll, but Jehovah simply had it written again. His word cannot be destroyed by those who reject it.

Throne of David

Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. Jeremiah 36:30

Wicked Jehoiakim loses any claim for his line to the throne of David. In the larger story that throne is kept for the true Son of David, Jesus Christ, who is its rightful King.
