Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate. Jeremiah 44:4
Jehovah, the premortal Christ, describes Himself as sending prophet after prophet, "rising early," pleading with His people to turn back. It shows His patient, pleading love.
Jehovah — "I AM," the self-existent, ever-living One
Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth. Jeremiah 44:26
Jehovah swears by His own great covenant name, the name that means He lives. Those who abandon Him for idols lose the right to swear by that name. Latter-day scripture identifies that living Jehovah as Jesus Christ.
How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)
Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs. Jeremiah 44:28–29
Jehovah declares that His word, not the people's idol worship, will prove true. The Lord's words never fail.
