The good way and rest for your souls

Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. Jeremiah 6:16

Jehovah pleads with His people to walk the good old way and find rest for their souls, and they refuse. Jesus, who is the Way, repeats the promise: come to Him and find rest unto your souls.

Mourning as for an only son

O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us. Jeremiah 6:26

Judah is told to grieve with the bitterest grief there is, the grief for an only son. Zechariah uses the same image for mourning over the pierced one, which John applies to the crucified Christ.
