Judges 10

Jehovah

And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him. Judges 10:6–7

Israel abandons Jehovah, the God who had covenanted with them, and He lets their enemies press them. Latter-day Saints understand this God of Israel to be the premortal Jesus Christ, whose chastening is meant to turn His people back to Him.

Jehovah

Jehovah — the covenant name, 'I AM' / the Eternal One

And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim. Judges 10:10–14

Jehovah, whom Latter-day Saints know as the premortal Jesus Christ, speaks to Israel in His own voice and reminds them that He alone has been their deliverer from every oppressor. His hard words ('I will deliver you no more') are a call to repent, not a final rejection, as verse 16 shows.

When Israel truly repents and puts away the strange gods, Jehovah can no longer bear their misery (the Church footnote glosses the Hebrew of 'his soul was grieved' as 'at the end of patience'). Either way, the God of Israel is moved by the suffering of His people — the same heart the Savior would show in taking upon Himself their pains (Alma 7:11-12).
