Exodus 14

Jehovah

And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so. Exodus 14:4

Jehovah says even Egypt will come to know that He is the LORD. The premortal Christ reveals Himself through His deliverance of Israel.

The salvation of the LORD

Jesus (Yeshua) — 'Jehovah saves' or 'Jehovah is salvation'; 'salvation' here is the Hebrew yeshuah

And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. Exodus 14:13–14

Trapped at the sea, Israel is told to stop panicking and watch the LORD save them, because He will fight for them. The Hebrew word for 'salvation' is close to the name Jesus, and it teaches that Christ saves us when we cannot save ourselves.

Jehovah

Jehovah repeats that His victory at the sea will show who He is. The premortal Christ is the God of Israel who saves.

Angel of God / Angel of His Presence

And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: Exodus 14:19–20

The angel of God who led Israel moved behind them and stood between them and the enemy, giving light to Israel and darkness to Egypt. Exodus 13:21 and 14:24 put the LORD Himself in this pillar; like Him, Christ stands between us and what would destroy us.

Passing through the Red Sea

And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. Exodus 14:21–22

Jehovah opened a way through the sea where there was no way, and Israel passed through the water from slavery to freedom. Paul calls this a baptism, and in 2 Nephi 7 the One who dries up the sea is the same One who gave His back to the smiters: Christ brings us out of sin through baptism into new life.

The LORD saved Israel

Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore. Exodus 14:30–31

Jehovah saved Israel, and the people put their faith in Him and in Moses. Latter-day Saints testify that Jehovah is Jesus Christ, the Savior.

Moses as a type of Christ

Moses stood between Israel and danger, stretched out his hand to open the way of escape, and led his people to freedom. The Lord told Moses he was in the similitude of the Only Begotten, the true Deliverer.
