Zechariah 11

Good Shepherd

And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock. Zechariah 11:7–8

Zechariah plays the part of a faithful shepherd who feeds the poor of the flock but is rejected by them. This acted parable pictures Jesus, the Good Shepherd, rejected by the leaders of His own people.

Betrayed for Thirty Pieces of Silver

And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. Zechariah 11:12–13

The shepherd is valued at thirty pieces of silver — the price of a slave — and the LORD calls it, with irony, the price 'I was prised at.' Judas sold Jesus for thirty pieces, then threw the money into the temple, and the priests bought the potter's field with it.
