Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD’s anger come upon you. Zephaniah 2:2–3
Before the day of the LORD arrives, the meek are invited to seek Him and be sheltered. Preparing by seeking Christ in meekness is how the righteous abide the day of His coming.
Jehovah (LORD) — the covenant name, 'I AM'; the premortal Christ
And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity. Zephaniah 2:7
Jehovah promises to visit the remnant of Judah and bring them home from captivity. Gathering and freeing His covenant people is the ongoing work of Jesus Christ.

God of Israel — Jehovah, the covenant God of Israel
Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them. Zephaniah 2:9
Jehovah swears by His own life as 'the God of Israel.' When the resurrected Jesus appeared to the Nephites He declared that He was this very God of Israel.
How we know: the verse itself names Him
The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen. Zephaniah 2:11
The LORD will starve the false gods of their worshippers until people in every land worship Him alone. It looks forward to the day when all nations acknowledge Christ.

I AM — the meaning of the name Jehovah
This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand. Zephaniah 2:15
Proud Nineveh claims for herself words that belong only to Jehovah, 'I am, and there is none beside me.' The contrast teaches that only the true I AM, Jesus Christ, deserves that title, and every proud imitation falls.
