The Story
This song was written for my children directly. It sits at the front of everything else in the I Testify album because it explains who I am and why I believe what I believe. I have lived long enough to know how much time gets wasted on things that do not hold. Providing. Chasing. Building. All necessary to a point. None of it ultimate.
The chorus is a deliberate write to echo my resolve over and over throughout the song. I just hope my stinkin kids actually listen to this. I testify that Jesus Christ is living. Loving. Known. That He knows you more than words can say. That He will stay with you. If these children of mine take anything from my feeble attempt at being a good parent, I hope it is that as a resounding truth.
So I repeat those words because they are foundational as I just said.
The second verse shifts toward my kids. Watching them choose good. Thank God they have become such incredible children. Not my doing. They have incredible souls. Its beautiful just watching kindness come naturally to them. Feeling God's love for them reflected back at me. Fatherhood taught me something about Heavenly Father that I could not have learned any other way.
This song speaks as a father's voice. Guidance. Encouragement. Guard your heart. Guard your attention. Learn what deserves your time. Let Christ sit at the center of it this whole thing.
This is my witness. Offered plainly. Given freely.
