The Story
This song has followed me most of my adult life. If you know me personally, then you have probably heard me harp on this before.
I have been called as a ward mission leader in nearly every place I have lived for the last twenty years. Believe me, I feel like its the Lord saying "Hey dude, you didn't get it quite right last time.... Let's do this again bud." Because of that, I have spent a lot of time thinking about what it actually means to love Christ in a real way.
The conclusion I keep coming back to is simple. Loving Christ shows up in how you treat people.
One line in this song captures that better than anything else I have written. "If you love me then love what I've redeemed." That line cuts through everything. Christ does not separate devotion to Him from devotion to people. He does not ask for admiration without engagement.
I was influenced by a sacrament meeting where the idea of feeding His sheep landed differently for me. Feeding is physical. It is relational. It is sitting at a table. Sharing a meal. Taking interest in someone without an agenda attached.
We are quick to judge and quick to pull away from people who feel different or inconvenient. This song pushes against that instinct. It invites curiosity. Presence. Actual connection.
The energy of the music matters here. Soul. Gospel. Harmony. The kind of music that makes you want to move outward instead of inward. Love is meant to be active. It is meant to be lived with joy, not obligation.
