Lyrics

On the shoreline, the morning breaks,

Your voice calls softly through the waves.

Do you love Me? You ask again

And grace repeats my name.

I said, Lord, You know my heart,

But You whispered back to me:

If you love Me, child of Mine,

Then love what I've redeemed.

Every tear, every need unseen,

Is where I'm found, it's where I've been.

Love Me by love, by the mercy you give,

By the hands that heal, by the life that you live.

Feed My sheep when the night is cold,

Be the fire, be the fold.

Love Me by love, and the world will see

That what you do for them, you've done for Me.

Not in temples of marble and gold,

But in hearts where compassion grows old.

Not in songs that never weep,

But in wounds that choose to keep.

For I was hungry, I was poor,

I knocked upon your door.

And when you opened, mercy spoke,

And love became the Lord.

Every face, every soul you find,

Is the image of the Divine.

Love Me by love, by the mercy you give,

By the hands that heal, by the life that you live.

Feed My sheep when the night is cold,

Be the fire, be the fold.

Love Me by love, and the world will see,

That what you do for them, you've done for Me.

If you would know Me, walk where the weary go,

Carry the cross they bear, and you will find your soul.

Let every act of kindness preach,

What sermons never reach.

Heaven sings when love is free,

When you lose yourself in Me.

Love Me by love, by the mercy you give,

By the life laid down, by the way you forgive.

Feed My sheep till the shadows fade,

Till the broken find their place.

Love Me by love, let the nations see

That what you do for them, you've done for Me.

On the shoreline, I hear You still

Do you love Me? … Yes, I will.

And with every heart I keep,

Lord, I'll feed Your sheep.

The Story

This song has followed me most of my adult life. If you know me personally, then you have probably heard me harp on this before.

I have been called as a ward mission leader in nearly every place I have lived for the last twenty years. Believe me, I feel like its the Lord saying "Hey dude, you didn't get it quite right last time.... Let's do this again bud." Because of that, I have spent a lot of time thinking about what it actually means to love Christ in a real way.

The conclusion I keep coming back to is simple. Loving Christ shows up in how you treat people.

One line in this song captures that better than anything else I have written. "If you love me then love what I've redeemed." That line cuts through everything. Christ does not separate devotion to Him from devotion to people. He does not ask for admiration without engagement.

I was influenced by a sacrament meeting where the idea of feeding His sheep landed differently for me. Feeding is physical. It is relational. It is sitting at a table. Sharing a meal. Taking interest in someone without an agenda attached.

We are quick to judge and quick to pull away from people who feel different or inconvenient. This song pushes against that instinct. It invites curiosity. Presence. Actual connection.

The energy of the music matters here. Soul. Gospel. Harmony. The kind of music that makes you want to move outward instead of inward. Love is meant to be active. It is meant to be lived with joy, not obligation.
