Bethlehem Ephratah, birthplace of the Messiah

Bethlehem — house of bread; Ephratah — fruitful

And Penuel the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These are the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephratah, the father of Bethlehem. 1 Chronicles 4:4

The family that founded Bethlehem is traced to Ephratah. Micah prophesied that the everlasting Ruler would come out of Bethlehem Ephratah, and Jesus was born there.

• alludes to Micah 5:2 — Bethlehem Ephratah named as the birthplace of the ruler in Israel.
• alludes to Matthew 2:5-6 — The scribes cite Micah to place Christ's birth in Bethlehem.

God of Israel (Jehovah)

God of Israel — the covenant God who led Israel, Jehovah

And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. 1 Chronicles 4:10

Jabez prays to the God of Israel, the covenant God Jehovah, whom Latter-day Saints know as the premortal Christ. When the risen Savior visited the Nephites, He called Himself "the God of Israel." God answers Jabez's prayer.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)
