Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel

Jehovah — the covenant God, the premortal Jesus Christ

So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, Ye children of Israel, turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria. 2 Chronicles 30:6–9

The king's letters invite scattered Israel back to Jehovah, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, the premortal Christ. The message is that He is gracious and merciful and will return to anyone who returns to Him.

How we know: Jehovah is the premortal Christ (Abraham 1:16; D&C 110:3–4)

• the same title in Exodus 3:6 — 'The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob,' the premortal Christ at the burning bush.

Passover Lamb

Then they killed the passover on the fourteenth day of the second month: and the priests and the Levites were ashamed, and sanctified themselves, and brought in the burnt offerings into the house of the LORD. 2 Chronicles 30:15–17

The Passover lamb, whose blood saved Israel from death, is a type of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. Here the lambs are killed on behalf of those who cannot make themselves clean, 'to sanctify them unto the LORD,' as Christ's blood sanctifies us.

• alludes to Exodus 12:13 — The blood of the Passover lamb as the token of deliverance.
• a type of what is in John 1:29 — 'Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.'

Grace — the LORD pardons and heals

For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim, and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet did they eat the passover otherwise than it was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, The good LORD pardon every one 2 Chronicles 30:18–20

Hezekiah pleads for people who are not ritually clean but whose hearts seek God, and the LORD pardons and heals them. It is a picture of Christ's grace: He looks on the heart, forgives, and heals those who come to Him, even when they cannot fully make themselves clean.
