2 Kings 19

Jehovah

And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. 2 Kings 19:6–7

Through Isaiah, Jehovah (the premortal Christ) tells Hezekiah not to fear, calling the Assyrian insults blasphemy against Himself. His first word to the frightened king is "be not afraid."

Creator

And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. 2 Kings 19:15–16

Hezekiah prays to Jehovah enthroned above the mercy seat between the cherubim, the Maker of heaven and earth and the living God. Latter-day scripture teaches that Jesus Christ is that Creator and the One who speaks from the mercy seat.

Savior

Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only. 2 Kings 19:19

Hezekiah asks Jehovah to save, so the whole world will know He alone is God. The only true Savior of Israel is Jehovah, who came to earth as Jesus Christ.

Jehovah

Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard. 2 Kings 19:20

Jehovah answers Hezekiah's prayer personally: "I have heard." The God of Israel who hears and answers is the premortal Christ.

Holy One of Israel

Holy One of Israel — the set-apart, perfectly holy God who belongs to and redeems Israel

Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel. 2 Kings 19:22

Sennacherib's pride was aimed not at a small kingdom but at the Holy One of Israel. The Book of Mormon plainly says Christ is the Holy One of Israel, so this is a title of Jesus Christ.

Jehovah

Hast thou not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps. 2 Kings 19:25–28

Jehovah declares that He planned history long ago and that even the mighty Assyrian only did what He allowed. Like a man leading an animal, He will turn the proud king back. The premortal Christ rules over the nations.

Lord of Hosts

LORD of hosts — Jehovah, commander of the armies of heaven

For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this. 2 Kings 19:31

Jehovah promises that a remnant of Judah will survive and grow again. "The zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this" is the same promise Isaiah attaches to the birth of the Messiah, whose kingdom will have no end.

Jehovah

Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it. 2 Kings 19:32–34

Jehovah promises to defend and save Jerusalem Himself, so the enemy never shoots a single arrow. The premortal Christ is Israel's Defender and Deliverer.

David (type)

For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake. 2 Kings 19:34

Jehovah saves the city because of His covenant with David, which promised an everlasting throne fulfilled in Jesus, the Son of David. The prophets later use "my servant David" for the coming Messiah, so this is a soft echo of that covenant hope.

Angel of the LORD

Angel of the LORD — messenger sent by Jehovah

And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. 2 Kings 19:35

Jehovah keeps His promise in one night through the angel of the LORD. Here the angel is best read as a heavenly minister acting for Jehovah rather than Christ Himself, but the deliverance is His, as at the Passover.
