Jehovah

Jehovah — the self-existent, eternal I AM; the premortal Christ

Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him: 2 Chronicles 32:7–8

Hezekiah tells his people that Jehovah, the premortal Christ, is with them and fights their battles, so they need not trust an arm of flesh. It echoes the name Isaiah gave in these same years, Emmanuel, 'God with us.'

  • alludes to Isaiah 8:10 — Isaiah, Hezekiah's prophet, declares against Assyria 'for God is with us' (Immanuel).

And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword. 2 Chronicles 32:21–22

When Hezekiah and Isaiah pray, Jehovah sends His angel and saves Jerusalem from an enemy it could never defeat. The Old Testament's Savior who rescues His people is the same Jesus who saves us from sin and death.

In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign. 2 Chronicles 32:24

Jehovah answers a dying king's prayer, speaks to him, and gives a sign that he will live. The God who adds life to Hezekiah is the premortal Christ, who holds power over life and death.
