Lord of Hosts

Lord of Hosts — Jehovah, Lord of the armies of heaven

And when that day shall come they shall be visited of the Lord of Hosts, with thunder and with earthquake, and with a great noise, and with storm, and with tempest, and with the flame of devouring fire. 2 Nephi 27:2

The Lord of Hosts is Jehovah, the premortal Christ. Here He visits the wicked nations of the last days in judgment.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

The power of Christ

Christ — the Anointed One

And the day cometh that the words of the book which were sealed shall be read upon the house tops; and they shall be read by the power of Christ; and all things shall be revealed unto the children of men which ever have been among the children of men, and which ever will be even unto the end of the earth. 2 Nephi 27:11

Nephi names Christ as the power by which the sealed portion of the plates will one day be read. All revelation comes by His power.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

Jehovah, the same yesterday, today, and forever

Jehovah — the covenant God of Israel, the premortal Christ

Then shall the Lord God say unto him: The learned shall not read them, for they have rejected them, and I am able to do mine own work; wherefore thou shalt read the words which I shall give unto thee. 2 Nephi 27:20–23

The Lord God speaks to Joseph Smith, the unlearned man, and says He will do His own work. He calls Himself a God of miracles who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, words the New Testament applies to Jesus Christ.

How we know: the verse itself names Him

The Lord's voice: a marvelous work and a wonder

Forasmuch as this people draw near unto me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their hearts far from me, and their fear towards me is taught by the precepts of men— 2 Nephi 27:25–26

The Lord speaks, and these are the words Jesus quoted against the Pharisees. He spoke nearly the same words to Joseph Smith in the First Vision. The marvelous work is the Restoration that He leads.

Lord of Hosts, the Maker

Lord of Hosts — Jehovah, Lord of the armies of heaven

And wo unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord! And their works are in the dark; and they say: Who seeth us, and who knoweth us? And they also say: Surely, your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay. But behold, I will show unto them, saith the Lord of Hosts, that I know all their works. For shall the work say of him that made it, he made me not? Or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, he had no understanding? 2 Nephi 27:27–28

The Lord of Hosts, Jehovah, knows every hidden work and is the one who made mankind, as a potter makes clay. Latter-day Saints understand Jehovah as the Creator under the Father.

Holy One of Israel

Holy One of Israel — Israel's sacred, set-apart God, the Redeemer

And the meek also shall increase, and their joy shall be in the Lord, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. 2 Nephi 27:30

When the book comes forth, the meek and poor will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. Nephi teaches that this title belongs to the Son of God.

Holy One of Jacob; the Lord who redeemed Abraham

Holy One of Jacob — the Holy One of Israel; the Lord who redeemed Abraham — the Redeemer

Therefore, thus saith the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob: Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale. 2 Nephi 27:33–34

Jehovah is called the Lord who redeemed Abraham, which makes Him Israel's Redeemer. When Jacob sees his gathered children, they will honor the Holy One of Jacob, the God of Israel.
