2 Thessalonians 2

The Coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus — Jehovah saves; Christ — the Anointed One

Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 Thessalonians 2:1–2

Jesus Christ will come again and gather His Saints to Him, but Paul warns them not to be shaken by claims that the day of Christ has already arrived.

Brightness of His Coming

And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 2 Thessalonians 2:8

At His Second Coming the Lord Jesus will overthrow the wicked one by His word and the brightness of His glory. Evil does not win.

Glory of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2:14

Through the gospel God calls His children to share in the glory of Jesus Christ.

Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself

Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 2 Thessalonians 2:16–17

Paul prays to both the Lord Jesus Christ and the Father, naming the Son first. Both love us and give comfort and hope through grace.
